Who writes this

I’m Maggie Zhao. I’ve spent 15 years on the production side of WPC — running extrusion lines, checking raw material batches and shipping containers to more than 30 countries.

Everything on this site comes from that side of the desk: what a spec sheet actually means, why two quotes for the same board differ by 30% or more, and what to check before a container leaves the factory, how to calculate your landed cost and predict risks.

Composite decking boards: common questions

Cost lands in three bands, and the band is set by the board: uncapped hollow boards at the bottom, capped solid boards at the top. Retail listings sit above trade pricing because they carry freight, margin and small-order handling. A finished deck normally runs at roughly two to three times the board price once you add substructure, fixings, waste and labour. → what composite decking costs per square foot

A capped board in a temperate climate should give you 20–25 years with no restaining — that is the point of buying it over timber. The two things that shorten that figure are an uncapped board in high UV, and a substructure that traps water.

On first cost, no — timber is cheaper per m². Over ten years the gap closes once you count staining, replacement boards and labour, and it usually reverses if you value your own weekend. Composite wins on maintenance and consistency; timber wins on initial price and on a solid hardwood look.  → composite decking cost vs wood

Yes, and it is closer to assembling than to carpentry. You need the joist spacing right 300 mm / 400 mm, the fixings matched to the board type, and expansion gaps left where the board meets anything fixed. The mistakes are almost always at the edges, not in the field.

As a working figure, a hollow board runs about 2.6-2.8 kg per meter and a solid board about 2.9-3.1 kg per meter — the difference matters when you are sizing a trailer or a rooftop job, less so on the deck itself.

300 m² per board profile, production lead time 25–30 days before freight. A first container is usually one profile in one or two colours — it sells through faster than three half-SKUs. → Trade terms
